Regular physical activity lowers risk of severe COVID-19 and death

People who engage in regular physical activity have a lower risk of death, seriousness, and hospitalization even if they contract COVID-19, a study found.

According to the medical community on the 24th, a research team from the University of Valencia in Spain analyzed the data of 1,853,160 people included in 16 studies to determine the relationship between physical activity and the risk of severe COVID-19, and recently published the results of the study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Research shows that people who engage in regular physical activity have a lower risk of contracting COVID-19 than those who are inactive.

89% of cases of COVID-19 infection, 64% of hospitalizations, 66% of severe cases, and 57% of deaths were found to be low.

"This study appears to be associated with a lower likelihood of regular COVID-19 negative symptoms," the researchers said. It can help develop guidelines for the level of physical activity that is present.”
